After a few months the same thing happened, the cord that plugs from the USB port to the pad shorts out. Antec's construction quality is complete CRAP too. I am so tired of this game, I just want a company who will make a product that lasts, instead of ripping us off with their cheap crap. After purchasing a cheap cooling pad by Targus, and having it short out on me, I was recommended this Antec pad by a friend. Well surprise. The only nice thing is that you actually know Antec is broken because the annoying blue light goes away, and if you have patience and are skilled at typing one-handed, you can fiddle with the cord until you get it just right and hold it so that the blue light doesn't go away, so you know the fans are on.
The traction bumps are constantly falling out (and consequently got lost) and both our mats broke within a few months. I first bought one of these because my boyfriend's original cooler mat broke (cord got ripped out by our dog) and was so impressed I bought another for myself. The cords both failed for different reasons.Initially I loved how effective and quiet the mat was, but because two of them broke so fast I cannot recommend this to anyone.
It keeps my laptop cool,and isn't too noisy. This cooler seems to work just as designed. Good product, good price.
I have it on high but my laptop still shuts down so I have to turn a regular fan on it as well.
I like that it has 2 fans, and that it blows away on two sides--so if one side is blocked, it's not a big deal. It's quiet--can't hear the low setting over my computer, and the high setting is quiet too. I'm currently, after having this 7 years, looking for a portable one, but this one's left me with high expectations. I got this cooling pad during college after Best Buy confirmed that my HP laptop's hard drive had literally melted. The pad made my computer go from that to cool to the touch--with the PC's high-powered fan speed never being triggered. It is pretty bulky--an inch thick--to bring to school in my backpack along with books and laptop.
